BP's oil spill costs at $3.2 billion

This news if for those who are following the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.

“British petroleum giant BP said it has spent $3.12 billion on costs related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The costs include payment on 47,000 out of 95,000 claims it has received after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion on April 20 that left 11 workers dead and began the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.” (United Press International – UPI)

BP is not alone in paying the billion needed to clean up the Gulf oil leak, minority well owners Anadarko Petroleum and Mitsui Oil Exploration Company of Japan, too will contribute to pay off the cost. BP owns a 65% stake in the gushing oil well, Anadarko owns 25% and Mitsui owns 10%. "BP has now demanded $272 million from Anadarko and $111 million from Mitsui, billing the companies roughly 40% of the $1 billion spent it May." (http://www.streetinsider.com/Corporate News)

"BP said it has skimmed 585,400 barrels of oil off the ocean's surface and burned another 238,000 barrels.

A BP spokesman said the company was not set to issue more shares as a fundraising effort, but BP shares rose on the stock market after the chairman of Libya's National Oil Co., Shokri Ghanem, said he would recommend the Libyan Investment Authority purchase BP stock.” (UPI)

Note:
BP is going through the backlash due to the current disaster, but please note that the Company ranks 3rd in Greenopia ranking, even better than Exxon.
